Honeycomb ceramic is a new type of ceramic product with honeycomb-like structure. The honeycomb ceramic is composed of countless equal holes in various shapes. The maximum number of holes has reached 120 ~ 140 per square centimeter, the density is 0.3 ~ 0.6 g per cubic centimeter, and the water absorption rate is up to more than 20 %. Due to the characteristics of porous thin-walled, greatly increased the geometric surface area of the carrier and improve the thermal shock resistance, the production of the product, the mesh hole is given priority to with triangle and square, triangle than square bearing force is much better, the number of holes is also more, this point as a catalytic carrier is particularly important.
Honeycomb ceramics can be made of a variety of materials. The main materials are : cordierite, mullite, aluminum titanate, activated carbon, silicon carbide, activated alumina, zirconia, silicon nitride and cordierite-mullite, cordierite-aluminum titanate composite matrix.
Honeycomb ceramic as a filter material has the following advantages : good chemical stability, acid and alkali resistance and organic solvents ; excellent resistance to hot and cold, the working temperature can be as high as 1000 °C ; it has good antibacterial performance, is not easy to be degraded by bacteria, is not easy to block and is easy to regenerate ; strong structural stability, narrow pore size distribution, high permeability ; non-toxic, especially suitable for food and drug processing.
